Work conditioning is an intensive, goal-oriented treatment program specifically designed to restore an individual's range of motion, strength, endurance, flexibility, motor control and cardiopulmonary functions. The objective of such a program is to re-establish the client's physical capacity and function so that he/she can attempt to return to work.
The various components of Work Conditioning are:
- Condition-Specific Exercises
- Aerobic Conditioning
- Education
- Strengthening and endurance exercises
Work conditioning could involve a multi-disciplinary approach (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, kinesiology). Work conditioning programs are usually of multi-week duration, requiring daily attendance, progressing to multi-hour sessions.
